Working in Partnership with SCIL; Somerset Young Trainers


SCIL recognises the breadth and diversity of the young people's workforce in Somerset and are passionate about ensuring their access to as full a range as possible to career progression and Continual Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.

 


There are many paid and unpaid staff who contribute to young people's development in Somerset who work in roles such as:

  • Youth and Community Workers
  • Learning Mentors in Schools and Colleges
  • Targeted Youth Support Workers; Substance Misuse Staff, Housing, Health (including mental health), Emotional Well-being
  • Leaving Care Workers
  • Many other staff who contribute in some recognised way to the young people's workforce
These staff come from the statutory, private and voluntary and community sectors and focus upon work with young people aged 11 to 19 and up to 25 where special needs apply.

SCIL is fully committed  to supporting the young people's workforce to help young people achieve better outcomes, by providing a high level of qualifications and training opportunities that are relevant to their practice needs and more importantly the needs of young people in Somerset.

 

Somerset Core Induction Programme

Core essentials for all practitioners

 The SCIP Programme covers the key elements of the 'Common Core of Skills and Knowledge' as set out in 'Every Child Matters: Change for Children' (2004.) This training is the starting point for the Level 2 Certificate or 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce and is linked to the workforce area specific Induction Standards
