The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has today announced the start of the next recruitment phase for Early Years Professional Status (EYPS), including publishing details of the organisations responsible for the delivery of the training across England from January 2012.
The University of Worcester is now the lead provider for delivery of the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) programme for Early Years practitioners across the West Midlands and South West regions working in partnership with University of Gloucestershire; University College Plymouth St Mark & St John; and the Somerset Centre for Integrated Learning (SCIL).

Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) is the gold standard for those working with children under the age of five.
Recent studies have drawn particular attention to the positive effects of having highly qualified staff, particularly graduates leading early years practice. It was the Government's aim for every Children's Centre to have a graduate by 2010 and every full day care setting by 2015. In disadvantaged areas the target is to have two graduates by 2015.
The new Coalition Government has remained clear in its commitment to the EYPS programme and will continue to offer funding to support early years practitioners to achieve the status through EYPS funding and the Early Intervention Grant (EIG).
We will ensure that our website is kept updated with any information regarding any future contracts. If you are considering applying for EYPS, you must now have achieved the following:
GCSE English Grade C or above
GCSE Mathematics Grade C or above
Please note this is a change of policy from previous cohorts.
Whereas there are alternative qualifications that are acceptable, including GCE English and Mathematics, it is only the full syllabus as in GCSE that is recognised for EYPS. The narrower curriculum offered for level 2 literacy and numeracy is NOT accepted for the professional status of the Early Years Professional.
