About SCIL
Welcome to the Somerset Centre for Integrated Learning (SCIL)
We continue to believe that it is essential that everyone who works with children, young people and families understands the difference they can make to children and young people's outcomes. This includes volunteers, as well as those who work in the paid workforce, whether for all or part of their job. Furthermore we believe everyone needs to understand the importance of working with other professionals to ensure that services are integrated and personalised in order to respond to the needs and strengths of the individual children.
We feel it is essential that everyone who works with children and young people has the skills, knowledge and expertise to do their job to world class standards.
In order to help support this view, the Integrated Workforce Development Team was created in April 2008. This team now provides a range of training opportunities to those within the wider Children's Services. The team has now become the Somerset Centre for Integrated Learning and will ensure training is appropriately targeted and delivered wherever possible in a multi agency way. This will help individuals gain a greater understanding of all those who work to support children and young people. We believe that it will be through agencies working and training together that we will start to create conditions that enable staff to realise their potential in a culture where they are valued, enjoy high morale and derive satisfaction from their jobs.
In order to help us deliver the best possible services we need a skilled and stable workforce, in sufficient numbers, led and deployed effectively around the needs of children and young people. The workforce is therefore central to, and the vehicle for, delivering the Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) in line with the 2020 Children and Young People's Workforce Strategy.
